In the upcoming Europa League quarter-finals, Liverpool is set to face Atalanta, while AC Milan will clash with AS Roma in a notable all-Italian matchup.
Liverpool, under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp and with aspirations for a historic quadruple, will host Atalanta at Anfield on April 11 before traveling to Italy for the second leg.
Having decisively defeated Sparta Prague with an aggregate score of 11-2 in the round of 16, Liverpool is considered the favorite against Atalanta, currently positioned sixth in Serie A.
Previously, the two clubs encountered each other in the 2020/21 Champions League group stage, where Liverpool triumphed 5-0 in Bergamo, and Atalanta secured a 2-0 victory at Anfield.
Bayer Leverkusen, led by ex-Liverpool player Alonso, is having an exceptional season and is a strong candidate to win the Bundesliga, leading by 10 points with nine games remaining.
Leverkusen’s undefeated streak was nearly broken in a dramatic match against Qarabag, where they turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory in injury time, securing a 5-4 aggregate win in the last-16.
Leverkusen will now compete against West Ham United, the previous season’s Europa Conference League champions, who recently ousted German team Freiburg. The victor of this match will proceed to the semi-finals to face either AC Milan or Roma.
The quarter-finals also feature a contest between two past European champions, with Marseille facing Benfica. The winner will advance to the semi-finals to play against either Liverpool or Atalanta.
The Europa League final is scheduled to take place in Dublin on May 22.
