In a significant move, the Southern Senators Forum has been reestablished, with Senator Adetokunbo Abiru of Lagos East assuming the role of Chairman.
This development comes shortly after the Northern Senators Forum experienced a shakeup with the suspension of its Chairman, Senator Abdul Ningi.
Senator Abiru’s appointment as the head of the forum is a replacement for Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who previously held the position alongside his duties as the Senate Majority Leader.
Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra has been elected as the Vice Chairman, marking a new chapter for the forum nine months into the 10th Senate.
The revival meeting, which saw 51 Senators from 17 southern states come together, also led to the election of six executive members to serve under Senator Abiru’s leadership.
Senator Bamidele remarked on the continuity of the forum, which has been active since the 9th Senate. He expressed his inability to lead due to his responsibilities as the Senate Majority Leader.
The newly elected Chairman, Senator Abiru, has vowed to utilize the forum as a unifying platform to encourage constructive dialogue and examination of national matters.
He aims to collaborate with the Northern Senators Forum to propel Nigeria’s progress forward.
