A somber mood has enveloped the Wase local government area of Plateau state following a devastating attack at Zurak Compani Market.
It was reported that bandits on motorcycles, stormed the market, firing indiscriminately and claiming the lives of several individuals, while leaving many others wounded.
An anonymous youth leader courageously shared the chilling details of the assault, describing how the attackers swiftly executed their plan, causing immediate loss of life and profound grief among the families present.
Despite the turmoil, the assailants managed to vanish into the surrounding wilderness, facing no opposition. The community was caught off guard, with no anticipation of such a security threat at that moment.
The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alabo Alfred, confirmed the incident, reporting a lower death toll of four, with six others currently receiving medical attention.
The police and DSS responded promptly to the distress call, pursuing the attackers towards Taraba state. One assailant was neutralized, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of this tragedy.
This incident is not singular but part of a series of violent challenges that continue to plague Plateau State. Earlier in January 2024, another brutal attack decimated Kwahaslalek village in Mangu Local Government Area, where gunmen took the lives of at least thirty people, mainly women and children, in a similarly ruthless massacre.
