The Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, clarified that the decision to issue an impeachment notice to Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu was unanimously agreed upon by 21 out of the 24 members.
The group, led by Mr. Steven Apologun, expressed their presence in the assembly to intervene in the impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor.
While acknowledging the peace efforts of the organization, the speaker emphasized that the decision was collective and not solely his.Agbebaku underscored that the decision to serve the impeachment notice involved all 24 members, with 21 signing the petition.
“As the head of this assembly, comprising 24 members, I adhere to the collective decisions made,” he stated. “With 21 signatures on the petition, as a representative of the other 23 members, my role is limited.
“He reiterated that any resolution of the matter would be determined by the majority of the members, not his individual discretion.
Earlier, Apologun, the Provisional President of the group, urged caution to prevent the legislature from being perceived as a tool for political vendetta against the deputy governor.
He emphasized the church’s pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the dispute between the deputy governor and Governor Godwin Obaseki for the sake of harmony.
