“The public can rest assured that there is no budget padding, and we are committed to ensuring strict adherence to the execution of the 2024 appropriation law, with robust legislative oversight.”
The Senate diverges from claims made by some of its northern members regarding alleged padding of the 2024 budget. In response to allegations raised by Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central, who questioned a purported N3 trillion padding in the N28 trillion budget, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Yemi Adaramodu, clarified the matter.
Additionally, concerns surfaced when the Northern Senators Forum (NSF) reportedly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of inserting projects totaling N4 trillion into the budget.
However, Mr. Adaramodu refuted these claims, asserting that the Senate is not privy to any such allegations of budget padding.
He emphasized that the budget is a transparent public document outlining the country’s expected revenue and expenditures. Mr. Adaramodu assured the public of the Senate’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the budget, ensuring strict adherence to the 2024 appropriation law under rigorous legislative oversight.
