The Nigerian Federal Government has recently mandated a new standard for the foundation of all road construction projects, specifying a composition of 70% stone base aggregate and 30% dust base.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, has made it clear that this new requirement is non-negotiable and has tasked all Controllers of Works with ensuring its strict implementation, as stated on the ministry’s official website.
This directive was highlighted during Minister Umahi’s inspection of the Sapele-Agbor road dualization project in Delta State, undertaken by CGC Nigeria Ltd. He commended CGC for their work but stressed the necessity of compliance with the new guidelines.
Umahi’s instructions were specific: adhere to the existing asphalt procedure, pulverize it, and lay a 20cm stone base, while avoiding the use of a dust base.
The minister’s oversight also included other significant road projects in Delta and Edo States, managed by various construction firms.
He has given a stern ultimatum to Geld Construction Nig Ltd/Tracter Nigeria Ltd, warning that failure to account for the mobilization funds within two weeks could result in contract cancellation.
He declared, “If there’s no progress after 14 days from this notice, I will take decisive action to terminate the contract.”
