Bandits Strike Sokoto: Students Abducted from Tsangaya School, Villagers Killed in the early hours of Saturday, bandits launched a brazen attack on Gidan Bakuso, a village in the Gada local government area of Sokoto state, kidnapping an unspecified number of Tsangaya students.
Liman Abubakar, the school’s proprietor, revealed that 15 students were still missing as the counting continued.
Describing the harrowing ordeal, Abubakar recounted how the bandits stormed the town around 1 am, leaving chaos and fear in their wake.
Amidst the chaos, one person was shot, and a woman was abducted. As the bandits fled, they seized many students who were rushing into their rooms for safety.
This is not the first time Gidan Bakuso has suffered at the hands of bandits, according to Abubakar, underscoring the persistent threat faced by the community.
Kabiru Dauda, the local representative, confirmed the attack, having received a distress call in the early hours of the morning.
He assured that efforts were underway to address the situation, with local authorities and security agencies mobilized to respond.
In a separate incident, bandits struck Turba village in Isa Local Government Area, claiming the lives of three individuals, including the village head.
Habibu Modachi, representing Isa Constituency, suggested the attack could be in retaliation to recent security operations targeting bandit hideouts.
The Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, indicated initial unawareness of the situation but pledged to coordinate with local authorities for updates.
These attacks coincide with the state’s ongoing graduation of its Community Guards Corps, part of efforts to bolster security and combat banditry in the region.
