Former Communication Minister, Adebayo Shittu, Unveils Reasons Behind Buhari’s Inaction on Orosanye ReportAdebayo Shittu, the former Minister of Communication, has shed light on why former President Muhammadu Buhari refrained from implementing the Steven Orosanye report throughout his eight-year tenure.
Shittu clarified that the Orosanye report, proposing the consolidation of various government agencies and parastatals, was not formally presented to Buhari’s administration.
During his ministerial tenure from 2015 to 2019, Shittu emphasized that the report never came under the spotlight of the Buhari government and consequently remained unaddressed.
“The report had been under the purview of the previous government (Jonathan’s), but it was never brought to our attention during our tenure,” Shittu stated.
“Hence, it never surfaced for discussion at any Federal Executive Council meeting. In the absence of any official presentation or complaints, we had no reason to consider it.
“Addressing concerns about potential job losses among civil servants, Shittu contended that the impact would primarily affect political appointees, leading to a reduction in their numbers.
“We must prioritize efficiency and eliminate redundant services to streamline governance costs,” Shittu emphasized. “While discussions about job losses arise, national interests supersede personal concerns.
I do not foresee civil servants losing their jobs due to this restructuring.”According to reports, approximately twenty-nine government agencies are slated for consolidation, with eight parastatals set to be absorbed into other agencies.
Meanwhile, the government led by Bola Tinubu has initiated the implementation committee for the Orosanye report.
