Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has urged the Federal Government to regulate social media platforms in Nigeria due to concerns over their misuse.
This appeal comes after a viral photo depicted him kneeling to greet President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during his investiture as the Grand Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, Bago stressed the importance of regulated content to combat misinformation and encourage impartial reporting by traditional journalists.
He stated, “Journalists, as the fourth estate of the realm, should uphold their role as societal watchdogs and ensure objectivity in their reporting.
I advocate for the implementation of social media content censorship to tackle the dissemination of fake news and hate speech.”
