The Department of State Services (DSS) has cautioned Nigerians against economic exploitation, sabotage, or profiteering during the Lent and upcoming Ramadan seasons.
In a statement released by its Director of PR & Strategic Communications, Peter Afunanya, the DSS emphasized the importance of promoting understanding, compassion, and respect among worshippers during these sacred periods.
While acknowledging the significance of these religious rites, the DSS urged stakeholders to refrain from practices such as price gouging and unethical marketing tactics, which it deemed ungodly and detrimental to the true essence of the holy events.
The agency emphasized the need for upholding good standards to ensure that everyone can observe their religious duties with ease and dignity.
Additionally, the DSS encouraged clerics and religious leaders to prioritize empathy, cooperation, and conflict prevention beyond the Lent and Ramadan periods.
The media was urged to utilize their platforms for informed and accurate engagements that contribute to national security objectives and interests.Citizens were advised to remain vigilant against public dangers, especially Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and to report any suspicious activities to relevant security agencies.
The DSS called for tolerance, brotherhood, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence among the populace, reaffirming its commitment to providing strategic intelligence to ensure a safe and secure country.
As Nigerians embark on their spiritual journeys during Lent and Ramadan, the DSS emphasized the importance of embracing values such as mercy, tolerance, forgiveness, and brotherhood to advance a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
