Gunmen suspected to be terrorists, known locally as bandits, have abducted at least 232 students and teachers from Kuriga village in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The victims, which include the headteacher of the school and other staff members, were taken from the LGEA Primary School in Kuriga (1) on Thursday morning.Former Kaduna senator Shehu Sani confirmed the incident, expressing his dismay on social media platform X.
He highlighted that this abduction occurred in the same village where a school principal, Idris Sufyan, was killed and his wife kidnapped over a month ago. Sani remained optimistic about securing the victims’ freedom.
The junior and secondary schools had relocated to the school building within Kuriga town a few years ago due to security concerns, abandoning their former location outside the town.
Mansir Hassan (ASP), the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, confirmed the abduction to SaharaReporters, although the exact number of victims remains unverified.
He stated, “It’s true, kidnapping occurred. Presently, we have deployed additional security personnel in the bush to rescue the victims.” “All security agencies in the state, including the police, military, vigilantes, and other security agencies, are collaborating in efforts to rescue the victims,” he added.
