ABUJA: Following the recent raid on its Agricultural Store in the Gwagwa/Karmo area of the nation’s capital, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that President Bola Tinubu has instructed the distribution of grains to residents to alleviate their current suffering.
Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Minister of State, disclosed the formation of a committee during a meeting with Area Council chairpersons and other stakeholders. The committee has been tasked with implementing the presidential directive within a two-week timeframe.
Expressing disappointment with the response of the council chairpersons to the invitation for the meeting, Dr. Mahmoud cautioned against any actions that could undermine the president’s goodwill towards the territory’s residents. She stated, “We recently received a directive from the Presidency, facilitated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
In light of the recent attack on our warehouses at Gwagwa, where essential supplies and equipment were destroyed, including roofing and machinery, President Bola Tinubu has intervened to address the pressing issue of food security.
“The committee’s formation aims to ensure transparency in the distribution of these relief materials. It also includes preparations necessary before the items are distributed across the FCT.
We have a strict deadline to adhere to, as stipulated in the directive received on February 29th,” she added. The committee members comprise representatives from various sectors, including Area Council chairpersons, FCT Emergency Management Agency, traditional rulers, security agencies, faith-based organizations, unions, NGOs, and the media.
