The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, reassured on Tuesday that the military has no intention of disrupting Nigeria’s democracy through a coup d’état.
Lagbaja emphasized that democracy is firmly established in Nigeria and affirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to upholding the constitution without any suspension.
Despite rumors of military involvement in removing Tinubu from power amidst the country’s economic challenges, Lagbaja clarified during the seminar of the Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary in Abuja that elected leaders are responsible for governance while the military fulfills its constitutional duties.
In his words, Lagbaja stated, “The Armed Forces of Nigeria, particularly the Nigerian Army, fully supports democracy as the chosen system of governance.
We are guardians of democracy and have no intention of disrupting it. Our commitment remains unwavering in defending the constitution under all circumstances.”
