The Nigerian Army successfully cleared an IPOB/ESN hideout in Ihiteukwa Community, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, following a fierce firefight on Saturday.
According to Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the troops seized three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), along with a Toyota Highlander SUV and a Hilux vehicle during the operation.
Additionally, the soldiers recovered eight rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, six rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, and a locally fabricated single barrel gun.
Various other items confiscated from the hideout include proscribed Biafran uniforms, a solar panel, a CCTV camera, mobile phones, batteries, Biafran currency, solar street lights, jungle hats, black boots, and assorted charms.
In a separate encounter, troops engaged IPOB/ESN terrorists at their crossing point in Akawa Nneato area of Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.
The firefight resulted in the terrorists fleeing into nearby bushes. The army recovered an AK-47 rifle, two empty magazines, and an FN rifle during the operation.
Furthermore, troops operating in the Kawara general area of Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State cleared and destroyed several terrorists’ camps.
Among the items recovered were three motorbikes, a PKT Gun link containing 246 rounds of 7.62mm by 39mm ammunition, woodland camouflage, desert boots, magazine carriers, and a Boafeng Radio.
The Nigerian Army reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and will continue to conduct operations to restore peace and stability in the country.
