Residents Rampage: Youth Break Into Government Warehouse in Abuja, Steal Food Supplies.
According to reports from residents, a group of youths broke into a government warehouse located in the Tasha area of the community around 7 am, plundering bags of maize and grain.
Jaafar Aminu, a resident, recounted that the looting persisted until 9 am, causing congestion on the Gwagwa-Karmo road leading to Dei-Dei and Jabi axis.
He mentioned that some residents and individuals from neighboring Jiwa and Karmo town joined in the looting frenzy.
Aminu also mentioned leaving the scene with injuries sustained during the chaos.
Christopher Agbo, another resident, stated that the looters even dismantled barricades meant to secure the site, taking anything they found useful from the warehouse.
This incident is not the first time the warehouse has been targeted, as it was previously looted during the Covid-19 lockdown. Grain bags and pumping machines meant for intervention were stolen during that incident.
Following the raid on the government warehouse, the marauding youths moved towards the Idu Industrial Estate, where both government and privately-owned warehouses are located.
As of the time of reporting, there was no security presence to contain the situation. However, when contacted, FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, assured that police were on the ground to address the unrest.
