The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for one game after he made a vulgar gesture on Sunday.
The disciplinary committee announced on Wednesday, February 28, that the ruling is final and cannot be appealed.
The SAFF and Al Shabab also fined the Portuguese star 10,000 riyals ($2,666) and 20,000 riyals respectively for the complaint filing fees.
Ronaldo netted a goal in Al-Nassr’s 3-2 victory over Al-Shabab in their Saudi Pro League clash, which triggered the home fans to chant the name of Lionel Messi, his long-time rival.
Ronaldo reacted by holding his ear and then thrusting his hand repeatedly in front of his groin.
He seemed to be taunting the Al Shabab supporters with his gesture.
A local broadcast did not show the celebration, but a fan posted the video online.
The SAFF’s disciplinary and ethics committee reviewed the footage and found that the Portuguese forward breached article 57-1 of the disciplinary and ethics rules.
This is the eighth time that Ronaldo has faced disciplinary action in his illustrious career and the first time since he moved to Al-Nassr.
In November 2022, the English FA fined and banned him for two games for breaking the phone of a young supporter during his second stint at Manchester United.
Ronaldo signed for Al-Nassr as a free agent from Manchester United in December 2022. He has scored 20 goals in 22 league matches this season for Al-Nassr.
