The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has ordered the security agencies in the State to apprehend and prosecute anyone involved in violent political acts in the State.
He issued the order in reaction to reports of alleged assaults on some people and vandalism of campaign materials following the visit of President Bola Tinubu to the State on Wednesday, 28th February 2024.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, said in a statement on Thursday, 29th of February, 2024, that the Governor’s administration would not “allow any violence that could endanger the peace and stability of the State,” he said.
“The Governor has repeatedly stated that any political campaign that disrupts the peace in the State is intolerable and must be confronted with the firm actions of security agencies.
“It is important to clarify that no one linked to the Governor or the government of Ondo State participated in any of the reported activities attributed to “political thugs” during the President’s visit to Owo and Akure,” the statement said in part.
Aiyedatiwa advised politicians and their supporters to ensure that their campaigns are focused on issues, free of slander and lies, and not capable of provoking the public and harassing opponents in the State.
