The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported that Nigerian troops engaged in various operations across the country eliminated 974 terrorists while 1,157 Boko Haram and ISWAP militants surrendered to the military in February.
Additionally, 466 hostages were liberated from terrorist captivity during the same period. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations at DHQ, disclosed these figures during a briefing on the military’s operations nationwide.
In February, troops also recovered significant quantities of stolen crude oil and illegal petroleum products, totaling 8.9 million litres.
Additionally, 1,573 assorted weapons and 23,345 arms and ammunition were seized by the military.
Specifically, in the North-East region, troops under Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 242 terrorists, arrested 57 suspects, and rescued 42 hostages.
Furthermore, 1,157 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters surrendered to the troops.In the North-Central, Operation Safe Haven troops eliminated 31 terrorists, arrested 187 suspects, and rescued 19 hostages.
Meanwhile, Operation Whirl Stroke eliminated 100 terrorists, arrested 67 suspects, and rescued 53 hostages.
In the North-West, Operation Hadarin Daji troops neutralized 345 terrorists, apprehended 80 suspects, and rescued 289 hostages.
Operation Whirl Punch troops neutralized 150 terrorists, arrested 161 suspects, rescued 44 hostages, and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition.
In the South-South, troops of Operation Delta Safe arrested 359 suspected oil thieves and seized significant quantities of crude oil and illegal petroleum products.
They also recovered assorted weapons and destroyed numerous illegal refining sites.
Finally, in the South-East, Operation UDO KA troops neutralized 106 terrorists, apprehended 69 suspects, and rescued 19 hostages.
