The Bakers Association of Nigeria, AMBCN, has announced the cessation of its strike following productive discussions with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, signed by its president, Mansur Umar, the union declared that it had successfully reached agreements with the Nigerian government.
Umar, in the statement, outlined some of the key agreements reached between the union and the government.
These include the immediate allocation of 25,000 metric tons of wheat for processing and supply to flour companies to meet the needs of bakers.
Additionally, both parties agreed to revise plans for producing flour from alternative sources such as cassava, potatoes, and sorghum.
Furthermore, an agreement was reached to provide support to bread bakers through a program initiated by the Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture.
It is worth noting that bakery owners in Nigeria initiated the strike in response to the challenges posed by high production costs and material shortages.
