The Senate has given its approval to President Bola Tinubu’s request to dismiss Babatunde Irukera, the executive vice chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Tinubu’s decision to remove Irukera from his position was communicated through a letter read during Wednesday’s plenary session by Senate President GodsWill Akpabio.
Citing inefficiency as the reason for the dismissal, Tinubu’s request underwent deliberations and was eventually put to a voice vote, with the majority of lawmakers supporting Tinubu’s decision.
According to the FCCPC Act, the President requires the National Assembly’s approval to terminate Irukera’s employment.
In January, Tinubu had also dismissed Alexander Okoh, the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises.
