Tensions Rise in FCT Administration as Senior Director Defies Minister’s DirectiveA conflict is unfolding within the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), with the most senior director, Prince Samuel Atang, insisting on being addressed as “Acting Permanent Secretary,” contrary to the minister’s instructions.
According to a press statement by a civil society organization, Transparency and Accountability in Public Service, the minister, during a live television program, had directed that Mr. Samuel Atang should not be referred to as the Ag.
Permanent Secretary but as the Most Senior Director. This directive was issued at the flag-off of the Gwagwalada rural road project.
Barrister Chidi Ejifor, the National Coordinator of the group, accused Mr. Atang, who has only been in the FCTA for 27 days, of disrupting the system by assuming a non-existent title and position to maintain relevance after retirement.
Ejifor also alleged that Mr. Atang, with the support of some associates, was compiling lists of directors for retirement, claiming that it was at the minister’s behest and part of cost-saving measures.
The organization warned the minister to be cautious in dealing with individuals like Mr. Atang, citing concerns about his truthfulness and potential self-enrichment at the expense of the FCTA. They offered to provide evidence of such misconduct if needed.
