The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Siminialayi Fubara of failing to fully implement two crucial resolutions from the December 2023 agreement aimed at resolving the state’s political crisis.
While acknowledging that Fubara has acted on six resolutions, the party raised concerns over his delay in re-presenting the state’s 2024 budget to the House of Assembly and conducting local government elections, which were vital components of the agreement.
Tony Okocha, the APC Chairman, criticized Fubara’s leadership approach, alleging influence from a “purported elders forum” that led to the deviation from the agreement’s full implementation.
Okocha expressed disappointment, especially considering Fubara’s background as a career civil servant.
He highlighted efforts made to resolve the crisis, including intervention from President Tinubu, who facilitated a meeting with stakeholders from both sides.
Following discussions, an eight-point proclamation document was presented and signed by all parties involved.
Despite some progress, Okocha emphasized Fubara’s refusal to implement the two critical agreements concerning the state budget and local government elections.
He stressed that caretaker committees or sole administrators for local government councils were not acceptable, as reiterated by President Tinubu.
The APC vowed to seek legal redress if necessary to compel compliance with the agreement and ensure respect for constitutional processes and presidential directives. They urged Fubara to adhere to the terms of the agreement and not circumvent established legal and constitutional norms.
