After the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) lifted sanctions imposed on Niger Republic and other nations, the Northern Senators Forum (NSF) is urging Niger’s government and people to seize the opportunity to expedite the return to democratic governance.
In a statement issued by Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila (NNPP Kano South), the NSF expressed gratitude to ECOWAS leaders, led by President Bola Tinubu, for swiftly lifting the sanctions imposed on Niger Republic following the military takeover in July 2023.
The senators applauded ECOWAS for heeding their calls and termed the decision as a demonstration of the organization’s commitment to regional solidarity, cooperation, and human rights.
They emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and peaceful resolutions to address any remaining concerns, fostering a conducive environment for progress and development in the region.
The senators appreciated ECOWAS’s actions, foreseeing positive implications for Niger’s people and regional integration, trade, and cooperation.
They pledged solidarity with ECOWAS in restoring democracy and the rule of law in Niger Republic and reiterated their commitment to promoting stability, peace, and socioeconomic development across West Africa.
