Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Igboho, has returned to Nigeria for his mother’s burial.
According to a statement by Igboho’s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, the activist arrived in the country for the final rites of his late mother.
Koiki confirmed this in a brief statement accompanied by a video posted on his social media page on Thursday.
In the video, Igboho is seen alongside some individuals believed to be at the mortuary, preparing for the burial.Koiki wrote: “I can confirm that Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho is currently on his way to Igboho Town for the final burial of his mother MRS S.A.ADEYEMO.
“The body of MRS S.A ADEYEMO was picked up from the mortuary in SAKI TOWN some few hours ago.”
Igboho has been residing outside Nigeria since 2021 when he fled to Benin Republic after being declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Following a raid on his residence by the DSS over alleged terrorism charges, Igboho sought refuge in Benin Republic.
In Benin Republic, Igboho was apprehended and detained while attempting to travel to Germany.
However, he recently regained his freedom after spending two years in a Beninese prison.
During his detention in Benin Republic, Igboho’s mother, who resided in Saki, Oyo State, passed away.
