The Riyadh-based team of Cristiano Ronaldo, Al Nassr, reached the quarterfinals of the Asian Champions League on Wednesday after defeating fellow Saudi Pro League team Al Fayha 2-0 to secure a 3-0 aggregate win.
Otavio, the Portugal winger, gave them the lead in the 17th minute to extend their 1-0 advantage from last week before Ronaldo scored a late second.
Al Nassr will face Al-Ain next after Soufiane Rahimi’s injury-time goal helped Hernan Crespo’s side overcome Uzbekistan’s Nasaf.
According to Reuters, Ronaldo almost scored another goal when his header in the 37th minute hit the post but the ex-Real Madrid star did find the net with four minutes left, tapping into an empty net after getting to a late long ball ahead of Stojkovic.
Earlier in the day, Yokohama F Marinos snatched a 1-0 win over Bangkok United thanks to Anderson Lopes’ 122nd-minute penalty to seal a 3-2 victory that sets up a quarter-final clash with China’s Shandong Taishanfor Harry Kewell’s team.
Ulsan Hyundai from South Korea also advanced to the next round with a 2-1 win over Ventforet Kofu from Japan’s second division to complete a 5-1 aggregate win.
Ulsan increased their 3-0 lead from the first leg in the 12th minute when Kim Ji-hyun scored with a quick finish from close range after Um Wong-san’s shot had rebounded off the post.
Kazushi Mitsuhiro equalized on the night with a header from an 88th-minute corner but Joo Min-kyu scored four minutes into injury time to confirm Ulsan’s quarter-final encounter with Jeonbuk Motors, who knocked out Pohang Steelers on Tuesday.
