After the contentious governorship primary election in Edo State last Saturday, the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the poll inconclusive.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made this announcement on Tuesday following an emergency meeting between the party’s leadership and the NWC at the party secretariat in Abuja.
The primary, conducted on February 17, resulted in three declared winners. The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Governor Hope Uzodimma, announced Dennis Idahosa as the winner, while returning officer Stanley Ugboaja declared Monday Okpebholo as the winner.
In a separate declaration, Ojo Babatunde, claiming to represent the returning officers in all local governments, declared Anamero Dekeri as the winner.
Amidst the confusion, both Dekeri and Okpebholo sought their certificates of return from the party’s appeal committee.
Another aspirant, Prof Oserheimen Osunbor, insisted that no election took place in the state, contradicting the announced results.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Morka clarified that the election process had not been completed, stating that it would resume on Thursday, February 22.
Meanwhile, the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, had earlier congratulated Idahosa on emerging as the party’s candidate.
The reasons behind the NWC’s decision, led by Ganduje, were not clear at the time of reporting.
