On Sunday, the Kaduna State government responded to the emergency situation caused by bandits’ attacks on two communities in the wee hours of the day.
The bandits stormed Gindin Duste Makyali of the Kufana District, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing at least 12 people, wounding about nine and setting several houses on fire.
Governor Sani Uba, who denounced the attack, instructed the State Emergency Agency to quickly provide relief to the victims.
Community sources said the attack happened around 5 am, when the bandits, in large numbers, invaded the town, firing randomly.
They said that about 17 houses were burnt down during the attack, which went on for hours without any security intervention.
The attack came a day after gunmen attacked two LGAs of Igabi and Kauru on Friday night.
In those attacks, bandits attacked two communities of Gwada and Kassam in Igabi and Kauru local government areas where nine people lost their lives, seven were injured and many, including a retired Central Bank Of Nigeria director and his spouse, were taken hostage.
Igabi is located in the north of the state, while Kauru is in the Southern Kaduna region.
The details showed that six people died, five were kidnapped and two were injured in Kauru LGA, while three people were killed, seven were injured, and 30 were abducted in the Igabi LGA of the state.
The police had not confirmed the incident yet but a source told our correspondent that the attack happened near a security post.
The source said that 12 of the residents were burnt alive in their houses while nine were injured.
The state government, in a statement by the Overseeing Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said it was shocked by the news of the latest attack and directed the State Emergency Agency to swiftly help the affected communities in Kajuru and Igabi.
“While working with security forces and other critical stakeholders on mitigating security challenges, Governor Uba Sani received security reports on renewed bandits attacks resulting in loss of lives, kidnappings and destruction of properties in Kajuru and Igabi LGAs.
“Governor Sani who has been leading meetings with security forces, condemned the attacks in strong terms and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased. He also directed the State Emergency Management Agency to, as a matter of urgency, assist the affected communities in Kajuru and Igabi LGAs following the razing of some of their houses and valuables.
“The governor further reiterated the government’s dedication and commitment to tackling the security challenges experienced across the state,” he added.
