The Ogun State House of Assembly has advocated for the deployment of local security forces, particularly the Amotekun Corps, to supplement the efforts of traditional security agencies in safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens. This plea comes in response to the escalating insecurity, notably incidents of kidnapping and ritual killings, witnessed across the state.
During a plenary session, Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludais Elemide echoed the necessity for collective action against the prevailing security challenges, emphasizing the imperative of leveraging both conventional and non-conventional security measures. He underscored the importance of empowering local security outfits equipped with grassroots knowledge to enhance security in public schools, particularly at the primary and secondary levels.

The call for enhanced security measures follows a tragic incident reported by Hon. Oluseun Adesanya, representing Ijebu North-East State Constituency, concerning the abduction and brutal killing of a primary school pupil within the school premises. Adesanya urged the state government to reinforce security networks across public schools to prevent such heinous acts.
Furthermore, the Assembly directed the State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, along with the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), to conduct a comprehensive assessment of all public schools to identify and address encroachments on their land. This directive, prompted by Hon. Ademola Adeniran’s observation of encroachment at Mayflower School, Ikenne, aims to mitigate security risks and safeguard students’ well-being.
Speaker Elemide commended alumni associations for their contributions towards enhancing school infrastructure and security measures across various educational institutions in the state.
